US Basel III Endgame Re-Proposal Slashes Capital Requirements Across All Banks
The Federal Reserve, OCC, and FDIC formally rescinded the 2023 Basel III Endgame proposals and issued three new NPRMs that reverse course entirely. Instead of raising capital requirements by ~16% for the largest banks, the re-proposals would reduce CET1 requirements by 4.8% for Category I/II banks, 5.2% for mid-size regionals, and 7.8% for community banks.
The comment period is open through June 18, 2026. Firms should model proposed reductions against current capital buffers immediately — this is the most consequential US bank capital policy shift in over a decade.
