CISA Flags Exploited BeyondTrust Remote Support Flaw
Monday, 19 October 2026 · Today's Focus: Cybersecurity, Data Security & Cloud Security. On 16 October CISA urged immediate patching of a critical, actively exploited vulnerability in BeyondTrust Remote Support (CVE-2026-102764) and added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog.
Why It Matters
KEV listing is the trigger for a binding remediation deadline for US federal civilian agencies under Binding Operational Directive 26-04, and it is widely used as a patch-priority list by private-sector security teams. Remote-support tools sit at the edge of the network with privileged access, so an exploited flaw in one is a direct path into internal systems.
Also today: (1) Italy's NIS2 basic security measures become mandatory on 31 October (12 days). (2) The UK Cyber Security and Resilience Bill reaches House of Lords Report stage on 26 October (7 days). (3) CISA's CIRCIA final incident-reporting rule (RIN 1670-AA04) is still under OMB/OIRA review and has not been published. (4) FedRAMP RFC-0036 (Class D pilot requirements) closes for comment on 19 November and RFC-0035 on 17 November.
Action Items
Inventory BeyondTrust Remote Support — find every instance and confirm the version; per watchTowr's analysis, versions up to and including 26.2.3 are affected.
Patch now — apply the vendor fix (reported as patch BT26-05-RS) and remediate by the KEV catalog due date; check for signs of compromise on exposed instances.
Check Italian NIS2 scope — confirm basic security measures are in place before 31 October.
