CNIL email tracking-pixel consent deadline hits today
France's CNIL closes its three-month transition window today, 14 July 2026, for its recommendation on email tracking pixels (Deliberation No. 2026-042 of 12 March 2026, published 14 April 2026). From today, organisations sending emails with tracking pixels to French recipients must be able to demonstrate valid, freely given consent for pixel-based open/click measurement — including for contact lists compiled before the recommendation was adopted, subject to narrow exceptions for technical delivery and recipient-requested services. Non-compliant pixels are now exposed to CNIL's simplified sanction procedure. Source

One Thing to Do Today
If you send marketing or transactional email with open/click tracking to French recipients — including legacy lists — confirm today that pixel-based tracking is gated on documented, freely given consent, or disable the pixels until it is.
